The Ahmeek 115s are fat powder skis whose appetite for deep snow is matched only by their versatility all over the mountain. After a morning of face shots in the pow, the Ahmeek 115s will powerfully set their edges on hardpack and anything else in their way. The 115s are built to take on the nastiest terrain and let you rip high speed turns that would normally have you dumping speed.

The Ahmeek collection bridges the gap between aggressive freeride and playful freestyle, allowing for charging hardpack and big terrain, yet having enough flex in the tip to remain playful all over the mountain and float in the powder. Their hybrid MidLight construction, precision tuned rocker/camber profile, variable sidecut radius, and 115 mm waist make them ideal for taking on whatever Mother Nature throws at you.

The Ahmeek 115s are the ski that will have you saying WOW! Probably the most unexpected ski in our line that is versatile enough to be a daily driver, but also your dedicated powder weapon. Sure, they're not ice skates, but these skis will maneuver in the trees and charge big lines faster than you ever thought possible.

Dimensions: 146-115-131

  • Early Rise Tip Rocker maximizes flotation in powder and busts through crud.
  • Hybrid MidLight Construction combines Ash and Poplar hardwoods for weight reduction without sacrificing pop and energy.
  • Rounded mini-cap top edge with full height UHMW sidewalls are bombproof and look good too.

MidLight Construction

Ahmeek 105 Ski Construction - What makes skis

Core

Laminated Ash/Poplar Hardwood: Long grain premium White Ash and Tulip Poplar is hand selected and cut into full length strips. Strips are individually flex indexed and laminated together symmetrically. Each laminated core is CNC milled to a precise thickness profile developed for each model and length.

Composites

Unidirectional Carbon Fiber strips below the core, lightweight Triaxial Fiberglass above and beneath the core, Fiberglass binding mat underfoot. Rubber bonding strips placed along edges, sidewalls, and ends for rock solid bonding.

Sidewall

Full height UHMW - the same raw material as your base, bombproof and double chamfered for reduced swingweight. A rounded mini-cap top edge rolls over the sidewall to protect your topsheets.

Topsheet

Clearview gloss Nylon with sublimated graphics and transparent windows to inside the ski.

Base + Edge

1.4 mm CNC Knife Cut 4001 Race Grade Durasurf sintered UHMW. 2.2 mm over-sized and heat treated edges take a beating.

Blog Post About How to Size and Select Skis

Here's a basic chart to get you started:

Ski Sizing Chart

Sizing skis is a little bit of an art and a little bit of a science. There are numerous factors that all affect the optimal ski length for you.

A few of the factors are:

  • Skier size and weight
  • Skier ability (experts size up, beginners size down)
  • Type of terrain you like
  • Where you normally ski
  • Current ski size

The list could go on and on, but if you need help with the decision, always feel free to call us at 231.459.4323, live chat, or email us!

What snow conditions are they made for?
Ahmeek 115 Snow Usage Chart

Are they right for me?
They're right for you if you want a ski to float in the powder effortlessly, yet still grip on hardpack, and absolutely bust through the nastiest crud. These are the skis you want to grab when the snow is deep and you're looking to take your powder skiing to the next level.

What length should I get?
The Ahmeek 115s have tip rocker and a full twin tail. If you are between lengths, size up for a more stable ride, size down for more maneuverability. Check out our size chart in the previous tab for more info.

What bindings should I get?
You can use any binding on the Ahmeek 115s as long as the brake width is at least 115mm wide. We run Marker Griffon bindings on our demo skis. Visit your local ski shop for bindings and mounting.

What can I customize?

Construction: Get a consultation

What are Camber Pockets?
Camber Pockets are additional small sections of camber (about 4 in long and 0.030" tall) molded into the overall camber of the ski in front of and behind your midsole position. They increase contact pressure to improve grip on hardpack and ice. [add graphic]

Are they tuned and waxed?
Skis come tuned with a 1° base edge bevel and a 3° side edge bevel and a slight tip/tail detune. The skis are waxed with a universal temperature wax to get you going.

The Rundown

Ride Notes: Burly and rugged enough for the heaviest lines, yet nimble enough to blast in the trees, floats effortlessly in powder.

Design Needs: Maximum flotation in powder - stiff underfoot - twin tail - has to rip on hardpack

Purpose: Build a true powder ski that is extremely stable and still versatile enough to charge on groomers/bust heavy crud.

Why You'll Love Them

  1. These are the skis to take out in the best and worst conditions - the good, well, they're usually always good; but the 115s turn the table on bad conditions and make them feel like they're not even there.
  2. The 115 mm waist width and rockered tip will keep you floating in powder without all the leaning back - your legs just got stronger!
  3. Camber pockets molded into the minimal overall camber maximize edge hold on hardpack.
  4. Full twintip tails make the Ahmeeks maneuver easily in the tightest trees.
  5. MidLight construction keeps the burly construction's weight in check and ready for short-to-mid length tours.

Primary Ski Area: Wasatch Backcountry and Ski Areas
The Ahmeek 115 in The Wasatch

Everyone’s favorite all-mountain/pow ski finally made it out to the Wasatch Range for a full season that is still underway. Although the laps on the Ahmeek 115 at Cab, Boyne, and Mt Bohemia were fun, I had a feeling they hadn’t quite seen their full potential yet. I had even rigged them up with shifts (basic, I know) to use them as my primary backcountry setup for the season. Yes, my setup isn’t the lightest but, typical shift issues aside, I like the elasticity and feeling of a downhill binding over a tech binding and I’m not a gram counting nerd (yet).

After 74 days on snow so far, I think it’s safe to say that versatile is an understatement. I’ve ridden on many different snowpacks now - from skied out garbage to hardpack, to corn, to dust on crust, to waist-deep pow, and I still struggle to find any limitation. It goes without saying that it will float on any sort of pow, but the stability I’ve been getting out of them on hardpack is absurd. I thought I was going to have issues skiing tighter, steeper chutes with them, however, I’ve come to find that snappy turns are a breeze, and the added stability on bigger lines makes them a go-to for any situation.

Beyond the versatility, the ski is just downright fun. If you want to have a good time in all different conditions grab yourself a pair - or not - it’s your choice, not mine.

Best pow skis I've skied.

Finally got to get these out on a pow day...

I've been skiing 47 years, and these are A DREAM!! Was so impressed by the float while gliding through a foot of new powder, while keeping control and stability.

As the pow turned to crud, I was really surprised by how well these handled it. The flex pattern and the camber give you incredible control as you move from deep, to hard pack, and through everything in between, while the rocker keeps you on top, and releasing turns easily.

Was nice to still be able to put these on edge later in the day as well.

I cannot tell you enough how amazing these skis are, and how happy I am I went with Shaggy's!

Each call with Jeff was amazing, like I was their favorite customer... And the company chose to stop making skis to make ppe during the pandemic... So, great people, integrity, an outstanding product, and doing what's right... How can you go wrong?

I'm already thinking of what I want for a true groomer ripping custom ski!

(and let me tell ya... These skis were the talk of the lift.. They look just as good as they handle!)

WOW! This a super fun ski! I have been telemarking for over 30 years and have been on lot of skis. These skis rip! I was surprised at how intuitive these skis are. They initiate turns effortlessly and are surprisingly quick edge to edge for a ski this size. Nice predictable even flex that holds an edge really well and also floats in pow. It fits really well into that resort/pow category. A nice quiver of one for Western skiers. Get a pair!

In a league of their own

The versatility of these skis are shocking. I have demo'd a lot of wide all mountain skis the past few seasons and the ahMEEK 115s are in a league of their own. I bought these skis untested and was a bit skeptical of the proclaimed versatility. After donning these, I immediately hooked on their performance. The first day out on them was mostly packed powder over scattered sastrugi with some fresh powder refills in the trees. The playfulness and stability really surprised me for such a wide ski in mixed snow conditions. Fast forward to the next two outings; the past weekend has been dumping powder in the Cascades (3 feet in 3 days) and all I can say is I was grinning from ear to ear while ripping deep runs. The floatation of these are amazing and effortless. I really like the nimble feel yet sturdy solid performance these skis offer; these will be my dedicated powder/touring skis. I was on the fence on upgrading my daily driver ski choice between a set of Salomon QST 106 or Rossignol Soul 7 HD, but after riding the ahMEEK line, I will be looking to go with the ahMEEK 105s.

WOW!!! This is what I have to say.

Bootjack 115 Wilderness Collection
Where: British Colombia, Canada (mostly backcountry)

I recently bought a pair of Shaggy's skis Bootjack 115 Wilderness Collection. I had the chance to try them in various snow conditions such as: deep powder, icy conditions, rainy conditions, tight trees and all the way to spring skiing. WOW!!! This is what I have to say.

I've had the fortune to start skiing at age 3 year and for the first time, I took the plunge and ordered a pair of skis from the internet without physically trying or seeing them. I have to admit that I was nervous, but since Shaggy's was offering a 5 day satisfaction guarantee, it put me at at ease.

I mostly chose the Bootjack because I was going on a backcountry ski trip to British Columbia Canada where I was expecting deep Powder and large terrain. I am pleased to report that the Bootjack performed very well! Even at low speed, the pronounced angle of the rocker tip kept me on top of the deep snow making the tight turns easy in between trees. There is no better feeling than to make big turns in deep powder on good quality skis.

I also had a chance to ski at a resort where the conditions were icy in the morning and soft in the afternoon. The skis performed relatively well due to the camber and the camber pocket. The skis felt strong and stiff when I was on edge maintaining wicked speeds on big GS turns. Surprisingly enough, I was able to ski comfortably in the moguls. I tried a lot of powder skis, but I never found one that is as versatile as the the bootjack!

I find the Bootjack is a perfect skis for someone who wants to skis powder, but also wants to have fun skiing groomed trails. I added the Limited Wilderness Collection package to the Bootjack only because I found the graphics amazing! The only down side to the Wilderness Collection is it brought a lot of conversation on and around the ski lifts.....not the best for anyone who prefers not to socialize. LoL

Carbon Fiber Skis vs Fiberglass Skis - Skis Handmade in the USA

STANDARD LAYUP

Our standard layup construction includes a select cut Ash hardwood core wrapped with triaxial fiberglass and carbon fiber stringers under the core. The carbon stringers are used to increase pop and rebound energy in the ski, while complementing the predictable and torsionally rigid feel of the triaxial fiberglass.

WHICH CONSTRUCTION SHOULD I GET?

The standard layup is best suited for the majority of skiers, it blends the traditional hardwood core with an energetic feel. Skis utilizing this construction perform virtually the same as their Pure Carbon counterpart. Best for all mountain skiing with limited backcountry touring.

NANOMAG® DAMPING SYSTEM LAYUP

This method of construction incorporates a sheet of nanoMAG® magnesium into our Standard Layup that significantly reduces vibration and chatter in the nastiest conditions. The damping of the material increases edge hold and creates an exceptionally smooth ride.

WHICH CONSTRUCTION SHOULD I GET?

The nanoMAG® Damping System is suited for the skier looking for the ultimate in smooth skiing, especially when making high speed turns. This option maximizes grip on ice. Two words to describe this option are "Smooth and Stable". This will slightly reduce liveliness (vs. Standard or Pure Carbon) but gives you that Cadillac Ride!

How to Design your Custom Ski Graphic

  • Your custom graphics need to be designed as a rectangle with the dimensions of 16 in wide by the length of the ski plus 10 cm long (ie Ahmeek 180 cm + 10 cm = 190 cm total). This will include both skis as a pair.
  • When designing your custom ski graphic, we recommend you use a graphic program that supports layers such as: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, Corel Paintshop Pro, or if you do not have a graphics program you can use GIMP which is a free open-source program (http://www.gimp.org/).
  • Once your purchase is complete, we will send you a specific model design layout template that you can use for general placement, please remember that there may be slight shifts during pressing and to leave adequate room for that (full bleed to the rectangle)
  • Once you have your basic design done, you should paste the graphic layout provided by Shaggy's into a new layer (top layer) to see how the graphic will look with the ski cutouts and make necessary graphic adjustments. Remember to turn the ski layout layer offprior to exporting the file for print. See image below for reference.
  • The design should be done using the CMYK color space (this is how they will be printed), so if it is designed in another color space the colors may be slightly off. We cannot guarantee perfect color accuracy.
  • The design should be done in at least 150 dpi, but we recommend doing them at 200 dpi.
  • If created using Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator, the source file should be sent directly to us.
  • If a non-Adobe software is used, the files should be exported as a TIFF file, we will provide an upload link to submit the file (they are LARGE).
  • In most instances we will incorporate a small ski information emblem on the skis in an appropriate location near binding placement.

PURE CARBON LAYUP

Our Pure Carbon construction includes an ultra lightweight biaxial Carbon Fiber (+-45 deg. orientation) coupled with a slightly heavier unidirectional Carbon Fiber. A full Carbon model allows for an exceptionally lightweight and responsive ski. The exceptionally high strength and stiffness of the Carbon Fiber allows us to use a lightweight Poplar wood core, that is Select Cut in Northern Michigan. For maximum binding screw retention, we mill out the core and place an extra retention plate in the binding area. Average weight savings versus their standard counterpart is 1.6 - 1.8 LB/Pair.

WHICH CONSTRUCTION SHOULD I GET?

The Pure Carbon layup is best suited for the skier looking to often use the ski for backcountry touring where the weight savings allows for more climbing, or someone looking for the lightest ski. Many skiers have reported back that they are able to increase their on-snow time when the conditions are rough, primarily due to reduced muscle fatigue. Skis utilizing this construction perform virtually the same as their standard counterpart, however have a significant weight savings.

*Please note that due to the opacity of Carbon Fiber, skis with this construction will not have "clear windows" into the core as on some models. The windows will instead show the carbon fiber on top of the wood core. Alternatively, and based on availability you may specify to have your graphic printed on a lightweight matte finish white material. Ski graphics with "windows" to see the core, will be white instead.

We use the highest quality materials in our skis to give you the best product.

Select Cut Northern Michigan Hardwood Cores

The wood cores are the "hearts" of your skis. At Shaggy's we start out with select cut Northern Michigan hardwood, primarily ash and poplar. Ash is an exceptionally snappy and responsive wood with a very high stiffness for it's density. The long grain of the wood, developed through our bitter cold winters and warm summers, gives our cores an unmatched longevity! Poplar is lighter and softer than ash, and the cores of most models combine both woods in order to provide a great balance of stiffness and playfulness. Aspen is a lightweight option that is slightly stiffer and more lively than poplar yet still noticeably softer and lighter than ash. We proudly source our hardwood from Matelski Lumber, located right down the street in Boyne Falls, Michigan.

Northern Michigan Hardwood for Ski Cores

Composites

We utilize a triaxial fiberglass in our standard models to wrap the core and provide both torsional and longitudinal stiffness. The fiberglass is oriented in three directions, the first parallel to the length of the ski, while the second and third orientations run +- 45 degrees to the first. We also use some of the best carbon fiber in the industry in our skis. When used to complement the fiberglass, a uni-directional carbon fiber strip is placed underneath the core, which allows us to reduce the core thickness and reduce weight while adding responsiveness. When used as the exclusive composite (full carbon layup) in a model, we use an ultra-lightweight biaxial carbon fiber (+-45 degree orientation) coupled with a slightly heavier uni-directional carbon fiber. A full carbon model allows for an exceptionally lightweight, durable, and responsive ski.

Sidewall Construction

Impact-resistant UHMW-PE plastic surrounds our cores and is above our edges to absorb impacts and provide smooth, stable edge hold in all snow types. We place rubber damping strips between our edges, fiberglass, and sidewalls to reduce vibration propagation and to create a flexible shear bonding layer between dissimilar materials for ultimate durability.

This construction style reduces the weight of the ski by ~1/2 lb/pair while maintaining all the energetic characteristics of our Standard Ash construction. With the MidLight construction, you get a ski that's on the lighter side of the spectrum, but is rock solid when it comes to charging through nasty variable snow.

WHICH CONSTRUCTION SHOULD I GET?
