The Hubbell 85s are all mountain frontside skis built for both seasoned experts looking for a hardpack carving ski and intermediate skiers that want to expand their options all over the mountain. Responsive and performance focused, they carve quick trenches on corduroy, grip on ice, and rail anything on the front side of the mountain.
Want to lay down quick turns in the fresh corduroy or frontside crud? The 85mm waist coupled with a 17m turning radius (at 180cm) will keep you smiling all day. We utilize camber and camber pockets underfoot to maximize edge hold and offer our most refined early rise rocker profile to keep them floating in the crud and soft snow.
The Hubbell 85s are built to grip on groomers and ice with a shovel that wants to energetically pop from turn-to-turn. The flex is optimized to allow for quick and easy turn initiation, while maintaining the stability to make high speed turns in less than ideal conditions.
These skis are for you if you're looking for a responsive frontside ski to take on groomers, ice, general crud, and variable snow.

Construction

Core
Laminated Ash Hardwood: Long grain premium White Ash is hand selected and cut into full length strips. Strips are individually flex indexed and laminated together symmetrically. Each laminated core is CNC milled to a precise thickness profile developed for each length.
nanoMAG® Damping System*
nanoMAG® magnesium sheets are inlaid into the Ash hardwood cores. The unique characteristic of this material is its ability to dissipate mechanical energy into heat, with increased capacity as the material is moved faster. This unique combination produces the most stable, yet lively 95 mm waist ski on the market. The faster you ski, the more stable they get!
Composites
Unidirectional Carbon Fiber strips above and beneath the core, Triaxial Fiberglass above and beneath the core, Fiberglass binding mat underfoot. Rubber bonding strips placed along edges, sidewalls, and ends for rock solid bonding.
Sidewall
Full height UHMW - the same raw material as your base, bombproof and double chamfered for reduced swingweight. They provided exceptional grip and stability on hard snow.
Base + Edge
1.4 mm CNC Knife Cut 4001 Race Grade Durasurf sintered UHMW. 2.2 mm over-sized and heat treated edges take a beating.

Blog Post About How to Size and Select Skis
Here's a basic chart to get you started:
Sizing skis is a little bit of an art and a little bit of a science. There are numerous factors that all affect the optimal ski length for you.
A few of the factors are:
- Skier size and weight
- Skier ability (experts size up, beginners size down)
- Type of terrain you like
- Where you normally ski
- Current ski size
The list could go on and on, but if you need help with the decision, always feel free to call us at 231.459.4323, live chat, or email us!
What snow conditions are they made for?
Are they right for me?
They're right for you if you want a quick turning all mountain frontside ski that is made for the days when the groomers and ice are endless. You want a ski that is strong in variable snow, but want to keep the waist width in check. You enjoy rolling from edge to edge and really feeling the ski flex into a short to medium radius turn. You want a ski that will jump into a turn and not need to get up to speed first.
What length should I get?
The Hubbell 85s have early rise tip rocker and a medium/forgiving flex. If you are between lengths, size up for stability at speed or size down for quicker turns. Check out our size chart in the previous tab for more info.
What bindings should I get?
You can use any binding on the Hubbell 85s as long as the brake width is at least 85mm wide. We run Marker Griffon bindings on our demo skis. Visit your local ski shop for bindings and mounting.

What are Camber Pockets?
Camber Pockets are additional small sections of camber (about 4 in long and 0.030" tall) molded into the overall camber of the ski in front of and behind your midsole position. They increase contact pressure to improve grip on hardpack and ice. [add graphic]
Are they tuned and waxed?
Skis come tuned with a 1° base edge bevel and a 3° side edge bevel and a slight tip/tail detune. The skis are waxed with a universal temperature wax to get you going.
The Rundown
Ride Notes: Fun, lightweight, nimble, and forgiving. Great for a day cruising the groomers or breaking through the variable snow.
Design Needs: Edge grip on hardpack/ice - quick turning radius - medium flex (easy to initiate a turn) - fast from one edge to the next
Purpose: Make a frontside all mountain ski that is perfect for both taking it easy and railing on groomers, while also fun and energetic. Build the skis so they can easily slide past the crud and predictably take you into new terrain.
