The Phoenix 105s are lightweight yet strong backcountry skis that excel in the tightest trees while providing flotation in the fluffiest powder. If you're looking for a pair of powerful, stiff touring skis with plenty of versatility, these fit the bill.
Are you always hunting for hero powder but also need the versatility to grip on hardpack when conditions change in the backcountry? Do you want to tour on lightweight carbon skis that don’t sacrifice downhill performance? With cores crafted from select-cut Northern Michigan poplar, wrapped with ultralight biaxial carbon fiber, and protected by slanted UHMW sidewalls, the Phoenix 105s are weight-conscious yet durable; light on the skin track and uncompromising on the way back down.
The Phoenix 105s aren't just lightweight backcountry skis - they're stiff and made to charge downhill. These are the skis that prove Michigan manufacturing is here to stay. Handcrafted in Northern Michigan and skied around the world.
- Pure Carbon Construction combines an ultra lightweight biaxial carbon fiber (+-45 deg. orientation) coupled with a slightly heavier unidirectional carbon fiber and a poplar hardwood core to create an exceptionally lightweight and responsive ski.
- Full-Height UHMW Sidewalls bonded with 8 layers of rubber are bombproof.
- Clearview Topsheet shows the real carbon fiber in the ski.
- Notched Tails keep your skins on straight when ascending.
Custom Ski Graphic Frequently Asked Questions
Will you send a proof or preview of the graphics before you make them?
Yes, we always send a proof for any custom graphic prior to printing.
Custom ski photo gallery
Do you offer quantity discounts for custom skis?
Yes! We waive the custom artwork fees for orders over 5 pair (same ski, same length). Contact us for further discounts on orders over 10 pair.
I don't have my graphics ready, can I still order order now?
Yes, we will put your skis into production when you send us your artwork. Feel free to order ahead of time.
I would like a custom illustration or full custom artwork for my graphic, can you do that?
We can set you up with either our graphic designer or send print specs to your preferred artist/designer. The art cost for this starts at $200 and increases based on complexity.
What colors will my ski base be?
They will be the the standard base colors/graphics from the stock version of your ski model. For example - the Ahmeek 105s have one ski black with "blue Shaggy's" letters and one ski blue with black "Shaggy's" letters - so any customized Ahmeek 105 will have that corresponding base. Depending on stock levels, we may be able to do an all black base with different color "Shaggy's" letters - call us at (231)459-4323 to inquire.

Pure Carbon Construction

Core
Laminated Poplar Hardwood: Premium Tulip Poplar is hand selected and cut into full length strips. Strips are individually flex indexed and laminated together symmetrically. Each laminated core is CNC milled to a precise thickness profile developed for each model and length.
Composites
Unidirectional Carbon Fiber strips above and below the core, ultra lightweight Biaxial Carbon Fiber above and beneath the core, binding mat underfoot. Rubber bonding strips placed along edges, sidewalls, and ends for rock solid bonding.
Sidewall
Full height UHMW - the same raw material as your base, bombproof and double chamfered for reduced swingweight.
Topsheet
Clearview gloss Nylon with sublimated graphics and transparent windows to inside the ski.
Base + Edge
1.4 mm CNC Knife Cut 4001 Race Grade Durasurf sintered UHMW. 2.2 mm over-sized and heat treated edges take a beating. Please note, Base colors are swapped every other pair (black into blue, blue into black).

Blog Post About How to Size and Select Skis
Here's a basic chart to get you started:
Sizing skis is a little bit of an art and a little bit of a science. There are numerous factors that all affect the optimal ski length for you.
A few of the factors are:
- Skier size and weight
- Skier ability (experts size up, beginners size down)
- Type of terrain you like
- Where you normally ski
- Current ski size
The list could go on and on, but if you need help with the decision, always feel free to call us at 231.459.4323, live chat, or email us!
What snow conditions are they made for?
Are they right for me?
You want a powerful, stiff backcountry ski that, with a 105 mm waist, will handle it all. You are always hunting for hero powder but also need the versatility to grip on hardpack when the conditions change in the backcountry. You want to get out and tour on a substantial yet lightweight carbon ski. You aren't looking for the lightest ski-mo setup but need a ski that will maximize the downhill as much as much as the uphill.
What length should I get?
The Phoenix 105s have early rise tip rocker. If you are between two sizes - you can easily size up for stability if skiing open terrain, if you prefer maneuverability - size down. Check out our size chart in the previous tab for more info.
What bindings should I get?
You can use any binding on the Phoeniox 105s as long as the brake width is at least 105 mm wide. We run Marker Kingpin bindings on our demo backcountry skis. Visit your local ski shop for bindings and mounting.
What can I customize?

What are Camber Pockets?
Camber Pockets are additional small sections of camber (about 4 in long and 0.030" tall) molded into the overall camber of the ski in front of and behind your midsole position. They increase contact pressure to improve grip on hardpack and ice.
Are they tuned and waxed?
Skis come tuned with a 1° base edge bevel and a 3° side edge bevel and a slight tip/tail detune. The skis are waxed with a universal temperature wax to get you going.
The Rundown
Ride Notes: Love the open runs and hero snow, yet are still easy to pivot around tight trees. Light on the way up, stiff and stable on the way down. Definitely more suited towards the backcountry, but can still rail a turn inbounds.
Design Needs: Lightweight carbon build - substantial flotation in powder - skin notch in tail - camber underfoot for edge grip - tip rocker for maneuverability
Purpose: Make a dedicated backcountry ski that is built to maximize your fun on the way down in a lightweight pure carbon build. Most skis in this category are built with a weight requirement first, then performance as a secondary - not the Phoenix 105.

Why You'll Love Them
- The Pure Carbon construction makes the swing-weight ridiculously light.
- Tapered tips allow the ski to maneuver through the crud and also reduce swing-weight.
- The resilience of the Pure Carbon construction maintains flex life year after year.
- Notched and slight twin, tech-tail keeps your skins centered and your clips off the snow on the uphill climb.
- The 105 mm waist width will keep you floating in powder, yet it's nimble on hardpack and in tight, technical terrain.
- Camber pockets molded into the overall camber maximize edge hold on hardpack.
