Ski Builder - Layup and Assembly
Boyne City, Michigan
At Shaggy’s Skis, we build high-performance, custom skis by hand—one pair at a time.
We’re looking for someone to join our production team and help build skis from raw materials, with a primary focus on ski layup and assembly—the most critical step in the process.

What This Job Is
This is a hands-on role working with:
- wood cores
- bases and edges
- fiberglass and carbon
- epoxy resin systems
You’ll be assembling skis before they go into the press, learning how every component comes together—and why it matters.
This isn’t an assembly line job. Every pair is different, and attention to detail is everything.
How You’ll Start
Most people begin in layup, learning the core of how a ski is built.
You’ll work directly with an experienced builder to:
- understand materials and process flow
- build consistency and speed
- develop real hands-on skill
As you gain experience, you’ll have opportunities to take on more responsibility and grow into other areas of production.

You don’t need ski-building experience. But you do need a good attitude and a willingness to learn.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Ski layup and assembly
- Preparing materials for builds
- Attaching edges to bases
- Assisting with wood core prep and glue-ups
- Basic finishing work on skis and components
- Supporting production wherever needed
About the Team
We’re a small group that works hard, helps each other out, and takes pride in what we build.
Our shop is cross-trained—meaning people learn multiple parts of the process over time. As you develop your skills, you’ll start to take more ownership in the builds and play a bigger role in the final product.
Schedule & Work Environment
- Full-time, year-round position
- Spring/Summer: Currently operating on a 9/80 schedule (every other Friday off), based on production needs
- Fall/Winter: Monday–Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm
We work hard, but we also value having time to enjoy Northern Michigan—especially when the weather is good.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Standing for most of the workday
- Frequent movement (bending, lifting, etc.)
- No sensitivities to epoxy or urethane materials
