The snow season has sure been off to a slow start here in Northern Michigan, but after a little searching off of CR510 with my wife Stephanie and ambassador Collin Rehm, we found enough to make a few turns! Our ascent was littered with thicket bushwhacking and stepping over fallen trees, however as the elevation increased the thick canopy of the mature trees thinned out the underbrush. Our experience was definitely a telltale low snow excursion... 
The snowpack on top of some rock slabs was pretty thin, so Collin decided to slide down to Jeff (good move Collin, saved those edges...). We then made our first descent of about 50 vertical feet, just enough to slide up to the ridgeline we were trying to get to. 
I'm notoriously bad about some serious backseat driving in the early season as I've just hooked a few too many branches on the ground this year. 
On the way down Collin found a little drop with enough snow to air a tiny bit, small but fun. 
After bushwhacking a new skintrack, we decided to head over to a switchback and make a few car-laps thanks to my awesome wife Stephanie who drove us. While the snow might be a little thin, there is nothing like making some fresh tracks and exploring the often forgotten backcountry of Michigan! And then it was time to race back to the factory to get back to building your skis! Until next time, pray for snow!
